LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne Athletic Department honored student-athletes and athletic training students at the 14th annual Scholar-Athlete Luncheon in the Campus Center Ballroom Tuesday afternoon.

La Verne recognized 140 students who earned a grade point average 3.5 or better during the fall 2017 semester or have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Twenty-eight of those students earned a 4.0 during the fall semester and six currently boast a cumulative GPA of 4.0.

The ceremony featured speeches by softball player Rachel Ogata and football and track and field athlete Sean Backer-Meurke who both commented on their respective journeys to the University of La Verne and the benefits of working towards a degree as an NCAA Division III athlete.
