No. 7/10 Baseball Splits Doubleheader With No. 33 La Verne To Conclude Spring Break

LA VERNE, Calif. — The No. 7/10 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team split a doubleheader against No. 33 La Verne, 5-10 and 11-0, on Saturday evening at Ben Hines Field.

GAME ONE: No. 33 La Verne 10, No. 7/10 Endicott 5

WP (5-2): Gerald Terry (La Verne, Calif.) — 6 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 15 K
LP (1-1): Rian Schwede (Whitman, Mass.) — 5 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
SV (5): Benny Vogel (Villa Park, Calif.) — 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

The Leopards broke the game open with a five-run seventh inning to take game one of the DH.

Joseph Millar (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.), Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunton, Mass.), Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.), Robbie Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.), and TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) all produced multi-hit games in the loss. 

Liponis headlined the crew with a 2-for-3 day that included a solo homer, one run scored, and three RBI.

Meanwhile, Evan Scully (Maynard, Mass.) also pitched his second straight scoreless outing via 1 2/3 innings, no hits, zero walks, and two strikeouts. 


GAME TWO: No. 7/10 Endicott, No. 33 La Verne 0

WP (2-0): Gabe Van Emon (Lexington, Mass.) — 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 5 K
LP (0-1): Vicente Molina (South San Francisco, Calif.) — 1/3 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 0 K

The Gulls posted a three-spot in the first inning and never looked back to earn the split.

Grabowski got the inning going with a two-run double to left field, while Wladkowski plated the third and final run with a single through the left side.

From there, Grabowski slugged his third homer of the season to jumpstart a four-run sixth inning, while Jake Nardone (Wakefield, Mass.) capped the scoring with a two-run blast to right field in the ninth.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • Van Emon picked up career win number 10 in game two.
  • Endicott concluded its spring break trip with a 5-2 record.
  • Grabowski and Nardone are tied for second on the team in homers (3).

No. 7/10 Endicott (8-2) hosts Saint Joseph's (Me.) on Tuesday, March 21 at 3:30 PM.

No. 33 La Verne (11-9) welcomes Middlebury to its campus on Monday, March 20 at 3 PM (PST).
