Baseball drops to Pacific Lutheran

LA VERNE, Calif. — Jakob Thomas launched his first home run of the season and Ben White was 3-for-4, but the University of La Verne baseball team couldn't cool down Pacific Lutheran's bats in a 15-6 loss on Saturday at Ben Hines Field.

La Verne falls to 16-10 overall. Pacific Lutheran improves to 17-14.

All 21 runs in the game were scored in the first five innings. The Lutes scored in each of the first five frames and capped off the barrage with an eight-run fifth inning to grab a 15-3 lead.

Thomas blasted a 430-foot three-run home run to straightaway center in the bottom of the fifth to dent the lead but the Leopards could not make any more headway.

White drove in one run and scored another to go along with his three hits. Christopher Peres and Noland Henley added two hits apiece.

Cole Johnson went 4-for-4 at the plate and earned a win on the mound, going five innings in start.

Frank Airey was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.

The Leopards return to SCIAC action on Friday at home against first-place Occidental.
