Thomas, White named All-SCIAC

PASADENA — Jakob Thomas and Ben White of the University of La Verne baseball team have been named to the 2016 All-SCIAC Team, the conference announced on Wednesday. Thomas was tabbed the First Team catcher and White was named a Second Team infielder.

Thomas, who almost exclusively played corner infield last year, took over catching duties this season and did not miss a beat. He hit .347 while reaching base more than half the time (.507 OBP) and slugged five home runs. He was also solid behind the plate, committing just two errors on the season and posting a .989 fielding percentage.

White fought off an early season injury to record a typical Ben White season. The senior cranked a career-high six home runs and drove in 31 runs while hitting .376. White also flashed his Gold Glove all season as he didn't commit a single error and made his case for winning the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award for the second year in a row.

White graduates, but Thomas will return to anchor La Verne's lineup and lead the staff again next season.
