Baseball routs Caltech, 10-0

PASADENA, Calif. — Nicholas Michaels finished with three RBI, Christopher Arcos struck out seven, and the University of La Verne baseball team rolled on its way to a 10-0 seven inning road win over the Caltech Beavers Friday afternoon. 

Season Impact: The Leopards improve to 3-1 in SCIAC play and move to 3-4 overall. Caltech drops to 0-5 in the SCIAC and 2-5 overall.

Michaels went 4-5 at the plate with a pair of doubles. He extended the Leopards lead to 4-0 in the top of the second inning, hitting a ground-rule double to center to score Jakob Thomas and Brandon Vogel.

Arcos picked up his first win of the year going six innings in his start.

Vogel, Thomas, and Jacob Benson each added a pair of hits. Thomas hit a double to right in the top of the second inning to score Grant Thompson, putting the Leopards up 2-0. Vogel added a double of his own in the second inning. Benson finished with an RBI.

Rudy Casarez hit a RBI triple in the sixth inning that scored Adam Santa Cruz.

Andy Martinez, Mauricio GuadarramaChristopher Ligot, and Thompson each added an RBI.

Relief pitcher AJ Jimenez stepped onto the mound in the seventh inning striking out one. 

Cortland Perry and Chris McCarren each added a pair of hits for Caltech. Jonah Krop took the loss for the Beavers. 

Next Game: The Leopards conclude their series with Caltech tomorrow at Ben Hines Field in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
