Baseball records 12 hits in big win over CMS

LA VERNE, Calif. — Brandon Vogel went 4-4 at the plate, Jakob Thomas and Nicholas Michaels each finished with three RBI, and the Leopards totaled 12 hits on their way to a 12-1 seven-inning win over the visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags Saturday afternoon.

Season Impact: The Leopards improve to 6-4 overall and 6-1 in the SCIAC. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps falls to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in the SCIAC. 

Michaels and Thomas each added a triple with Vogel and Mauricio Guadarrama each hitting a double. 

Christopher Arcos went seven innings in his start. The junior was solid, striking out eight with no walks to earn his second win of the season.

Already leading 5-1 heading into the sixth inning, La Verne exploded for seven runs off of five hits in the inning to take an 11 run lead. Catcher Andy Martinez started the scoring with an RBI single to center field to score Christopher Ligot. La Verne kept rolling with RBI by Jacob Benson, Thomas, Michaels, and Guadarrama. 

After Claremont-Mudd-Scripps took the initial 1-0 lead in the second inning, the Leopards jumped ahead in the bottom half of the inning off a single by Vogel that scored Grant Thompson and Ligot.

La Verne added another run in the third when Thomas scored off a Stags' error to put the Leopards up 3-1. 

Thomas and Michaels each finished with a pair of hits. Thomas crossed the plate three times. Vogel and Christopher Ligot each scored twice.

Cameron Cash took the loss for the Stags.

Next Game: The Leopards conclude their series with the Stags tomorrow at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
