Baseball falls to Endicott

LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne baseball team dropped a pair of games to the Endicott Gulls.

Game One: Endicott 6, La Verne 4

Christopher Peres finished 3-5 at the plate and Nicholas Michaels hit a pair of RBI but the Leopards dropped game one.

Heading into the bottom of the fifth down 3-0, Michaels stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a shot up the middle of the field, sending Andy Martinez and Eric Munsey scrambling home to cut the deficit to one.

The Gulls responded with one rune in the sixth and two more in the seventh to extend their lead to 6-2.

The Leopards rallied again in the eighth off RBIs by Christopher Ligot and Adam Santa Cruz, but that was as close the La Verne would get.

Cody Norman pitched five and two-thirds innings in his start with three strikeouts.

Game Two: Endicott 11, La Verne 

The Leopards took an early 2-0 lead after two innings, but the Gull poured on eight runs in the fourth to surge of ahead of the Leopards and claim the sweep.

La Verne wasted no time getting on the board in game two. Gabe Lopez got hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Jakob Thomas walked. The pair each moved over 90 feet after a wild pitch. Michaels took advantage hitting an RBI groundout for the opening 1-0 lead.

La Verne added another run in the second when Jacob Benson hit a sacrifice fly to score Christopher Ligot. Ligot got into scoring position after doubling to left field and advancing third on a passed ball.

Endicott scored three runs in the third but La Verne responded with two runs of their to retake the lead 4-3.

That's when the Gulls rallied, scoring eight runs off five hits in the fourth to take the lead for good.

Adam Santa Cruz and Lopez each finished with two hits. Michaels added two RBI. Thomas, Brandon Vogel, Santa Cruz, Rudy Casarez III, and Benson each finished with an RBI.

Season Impact: La Verne falls to 8-7 overall and Endicott improves to 3-0.

Next Game: La Verne continues nonconference action tomorrow with a 3 p.m. home game against Dickinson.
