Baseball beats Dickinson at home

LA VERNE, Calif. — Mauricio GuadarramaNicholas Michaels, and Gabe Lopez each finished with two RBI, Jakob Thomas hit two triples, and the University of La Verne baseball team scored an 11-6 nonconference win over the Dickinson College Red Devils Monday afternoon at Ben Hines Field

Season Impact: La Verne improves to 9-8 on the year and the Red Devils fall to 3-6 overall. 

La Verne finished the game with 11 hits including nine extra-base hits.

Already leading 6-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Leopards extended their lead with the help of back-to-back triples. Brandon Vogel started things off with a shot that landed just inside the right foul line to easily get to third base. Not to be outdone, catcher Adam Santa Cruz hit a triple of his own, blasting a pitch to left center that landed at the base of the 388-foot wall, bringing home Vogel and extending La Verne's lead to 7-3.

After Ishwar Persaud walked, Guadarrama kept the bats going with a double to right field that brought in two. Rudy Casarez III capped off the four-run inning with an RBI single to left field.

Santa Cruz finished the game a perfect 3-3 at the plate with a run scored and a walk. Guadarrama and Michaels each finished with two doubles.

Tyler Agajanian picked up his first win of the season pitching four innings of relief with two strikeouts and two hits.

La Verne took their first lead in the game in the second inning when Lopez singled up the middle scoring Guadarrama and Grant Thompson. Michaels added to the lead with an RBI double to left field scored Lopez.

The Red Devils jumped on La Verne early scoring three runs off five hits in the top half of the first inning. But the Leopards responded in their first time up scoring three runs of their own to even the game. With Lopez on first and  Thomas on second, Michaels doubled to right field, bringing in Lopez to get the Leopards on the board. Vogel brought in Thomas, and Michaels evened the game crossing the plate on a wild pitch.

Brenden Pell and Max Brown each finished with two hits for Dickinson.

Next Game: The Leopards continue their nonconference stretch with a 3 p.m. home game tomorrow against Rutger-Newark.
