LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne baseball team took two games from the Linfield Wildcats Saturday afternoon.
Season Impact: The Leopards extend their win streak to six games and improve to 15-8 overall.
Game One: La Verne 13, Linfield 7
The Leopards and Wildcats combined for an amazing 30 hits, but La Verne got it done with runners in scoring position on their way to a win in game one.
Linfield left 15 runners on base in the game.
Shortstop Jacob Benson led the Leopards at the plate, finishing with three hits, two runs, and an RBI.
Thomas finished with two RBI, singling through the left side to extend the Leopards' lead to 13-5. Three batters later, Grant Thompson tacked on two more runs with a single to center.
Brandon Vogel added two RBI of his own.
AJ Jimenez picked his fourth win of the year, pitching two and two-thirds innings of relief, finishing with a pair of strikeouts.
Game Two: La Verne 7, Linfield 5
The Leopards erased an early three-run deficit on their way to beating the Wildcats for the second time.
Aaron Fong had a big game, leading La Verne with three RBI, two hits, and a run scored.
Thomas left the yard in the first inning, hitting a long ball over the left center fence.
La Verne took the lead for good in the fourth when Fong brought in two runs with a double to right. Thomas added to the lead with his second RBI of the day when he singled to score Fong.
Ryan Aguilar and Peres each added an RBI.
