LA VERNE, Calif. — University of La Verne pitcher Cody Norman has been named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week the SCIAC office announced Monday.
Norman was stellar on the mound, allowing just three hits in this start against the Occidental College Tigers on Saturday, leading the Leopards to a 3-0 victory. The Vacaville native earned the complete game win finishing with a career-high 14 strikeouts and just one walk. The sophomore faced just 30 batters in the shutout on the way to his third win on the hill this season.
The Leopards went on to beat the Tigers 13-3 in the second game of the doubleheader.
Norman is the second Leopard from the baseball team to earn SCIAC Athlete of the Week recognition. Jakob Thomas earned the honor earlier this year after finishing with six hits and five RBI in La Verne's series against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
