Baseball takes game one at Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Brandon Vogel and Christopher Peres hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth and the Leopards took game one from Pomona-Pitzer, beating the Sagehens 6-4.

Season Impact: With the win, La Verne takes control of second place in the SCIAC. The Leopards improve to 12-4 in conference play and 21-11 overall. The Sagehens drop to 20-10 overall and 11-5 in conference play.

Vogel led off the fifth with a solo shot to even the game at 4-4. Peres stepped up next, clearing the center field fence to give the Leopards the lead. 

Peres finished the game with three RBI, two hits, and two runs. He also stepped onto the mound in the ninth inning, picking up his fifth save of the year.

Vogel ended the game 3-5 at the plate. Lukas Granado went 2-2 with two doubles. 

Christopher Arcos picked up the win, going four and two-thirds innings in his start with two strikeouts.

Tyler Yoshihara took the loss for the Sagehens.
