Baseball set for SCIAC Postseason Tournament

LA VERNE, Calif. —  The SCIAC Champion University of La Verne baseball team opens up the 2018 SCIAC Baseball Postseason Tournament tomorrow against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens at 3 p.m. at Ben Hines Field. The Leopards share their SCIAC title with Redlands but enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed after beating the Bulldogs two out of three times this season and will host six of the seven tournament games.

La Verne Preview

The Leopards enter the postseason winning 10 out of their last 12 games. The squad is led by their six All-SCIAC selections and the SCIAC Coaching Staff of the year. La Verne will look for three-time First Team All-SCIAC selection Jakob Thomas to generate runs. The graduate student finished with 46 hits and 32 RBI in the regular season.

La Verne will also look to catcher Adam Santa Cruz for production at the plate. The junior leads the SCIAC with a .306 batting average and totaled 39 hits during the regular season.

Christopher Peres will look to do it all for the Leopards. The outfielder and relief pitcher has been the Leopards' most versatile players, leading the SCIAC with nine saves and adding 27 hits and 16 RBI at the plate.

Friday, May 4
Game 1: No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer at No. 1 La Verne - 3 p.m. 
Game 2: No. 3 Chapman at No. 2 Redlands - 3 p.m. 

Saturday, May 5 - All games at La Verne 
Game 3: loser of game 1 v. loser game 2 - 8:30 a.m.
Game 4: winner of game 1 v. winner of game 2 - 11:30 a.m.
Game 5: winner of game 3 v. loser of game 4 - 2:30 p.m.

Sunday, May 6 - All games at La Verne
Game 6: Championship Game - 11 a.m. 
Game 7: If necessary - 30 minutes following game 6

Spectator Information

The baseball parking lot will be available for spectators. Parking on Wheeler Ave will be permitted on Saturday and Sunday only. Overflow parking will be available at the La Verne shuttle lot (1925 A Street). Shuttles will make frequent pick-ups/drop-offs from the shuttle lot to the Campus West Fields and the University of La Verne main campus at parking lot E.

The softball parking lot is reserved for officials and game day staff ONLY.

Spectators are reminded that no dogs or pets are permitted except guide dogs and properly credentialed service animals.

SCIAC ID – free, children under 12 – free, general admission – $10, senior (55 and older) & veterans – $5
