Norman, Cerrillos named SCIAC Athletes of the Week

LA VERNE, CA — Cody Norman and Melissa Cerrillos have earned SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference office announced on Monday.

Norman was named the SCIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week after leading the Leopards on the mound in a 7-0 shutout win over the No. 13 Cal Lutheran Kingsmen. Norman was solid in the road win, striking out six while allowing just five hits and two walks in seven innings of work. Norman improved to a perfect 6-0 on the season.

Norman is the second La Verne baseball player to earn SCIAC Athlete of the Week recognition. Adam Santa Cruz was recognized earlier this year after his performance at Centenary. Norman also earned SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors last season when he struck out 14 batters in a win over Occidental.

Cerrillos earned SCIAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors after her record-setting performance at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. The senior finished as the top DIII athlete in the 3000m steeplechase and broke her own La Verne record in the process. Her time of  10:54.62 places her fifth in the nation.

Cerrillos was named SCIAC Athlete of the Week earlier this season when she was the top DIII finisher in the 3000m run at the Rossi Relays.
