Santa Cruz named SCIAC Athlete of the Week

LA VERNE, CA — Adam Santa Cruz has been named the SCIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference office announced Monday.

Santa Cruz had a monster week in three wins for the Leopards. The junior finished with six RBI, eight hits, and five runs off a .615 batting average with a .923 slugging percentage. Santa Cruz accounted for half to the Leopards' run in game two, hitting in four runs off three hits and a walk. The catcher went 4-5 in the final game of the series with a solo home run. Santa Cruz leads the SCIAC with 41 RBI, ranks third with 47 hits and with a .409 batting average, and ranks fourth with a .591 slugging percentage. La Verne beat Redlands 8-0, 8-2, and 8-7.

This is the second straight week a Leopard has received SCIAC Baseball Athlete of the Week honors. Cody Norman picked up the accolade last week after pitching seven scoreless innings in a 7-0 win over Cal Lutheran. This is Santa Cruz's second SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors this season. He also earned the distinction in February for his performance against Centenary.
