Brandon Shiota Named 2022 SCIAC Athlete Of The Year And Tanner Siffert Wins Character Award; Five Leopards Earn All Conference Honors

The SCIAC - The 2022 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) baseball teams were announced Wednesday following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches.

Brandon Shiota was voted the 2022 SCIAC Athlete of the Year. Shiota hit .465 during the regular season, notching 47 hits, 17 doubles, a triple, and eight home runs to go along with 41 RBI and 11 walks. In 16 of 24 conference games, Shiota had two or more hits and twice registered four hits in a game; March 5th against Redlands in an 11-10 victory, and April 2nd against Caltech in a 12-0 victory. The Cerritos, California native also secured a .526 on-base percentage, a .891 slugging percentage, and a .982 fielding percentage as an outfielder. 

The Leopards' Tanner Siffert was named the Character Award winner. Siffert started every game his senior year and has his entire career at La Verne. The La Verne, California. native is a leader and has exhibited the most professional approach to practice and games that the La Verne coaching staff has seen, and has always been a model of consistency. 

Leopards Brandon Shiota, Sean Holt, Gerald Terry and Alfredo Frey were all named First Team All-SCIAC. Sophomore Cameron Slessor was named Second Team All-SCIAC.

The Leopards will play Pomona Pitzer in the opening round of the SCIAC Conference Tournament at Ben Hines Field, Friday, May 13th. The game starts at 3:00 PM.
