La Verne Places Seven On All-SCIAC Football Team

Seven members of the University of La Verne football squad earned selection to the 2012 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Team in a vote among league coaches.

Each of the seven Leopard players earned First Team selections.  The trio of running back Matthew Biggers, tight end Christian Winnewisser and offensive lineman Matthew Shinn garnered First Team Offense honors while defensive end Alex Barrios, linebacker Anthony Arguello and safety Donald Mull received First Team Defense honors.  Additionally, punter Jeremy Brown was a First Team selection.

A junior from Riverside, Biggers led the SCIAC in rushing yards with 1,397 yards on the season.  His 155.2 rushing yards per game also led the conference and ranked fourth nationally among Division III leaders.  He earns his second consecutive All-Conference nod after being selected to the 2011 All-SCIAC Second Team.

Winnewisser also receives a second straight All-SCIAC selection after posting 14 receptions for 208 yards on the season from his tight end position.  A senior from Santa Barbara, Winnewisser was a All-SCIAC Second Team honoree last season.  A junior from Rancho Cucamonga, Shinn started all nine games and helped anchor the Leopard offensive line in his first season on the squad. 

Barrios earns a repeat selection on the All-SCIAC First Team after recording 28 tackles (19 solo) along with 7.5 tackles for loss this season.  The senior from West Covina also posted two sacks on the year. 

Arguello posted 51 tackles in his first season with the Leos from his linebacker positon.  A junior from Sacramento, Arguello recorded 29 solo stops and collected a pair of sacks.  Mull completed his senior season by recording 38 tackles (22 solo) on the year in addition to collecting a pair of interceptions.  The Lake Havasu, Arizona product also broke up 8 passes on the season.

Brown averaged 38.8 yards per punt on the season with a long of 59 yards.  A junior from Hacienda Heights, Brown had seven punts of 50 yards or more and recorded eight punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line.

La Verne finished the year with a 4-5 overall record which included a 4-3 record in conference year.
