Baier steps down, takes role in Admissions

LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne assistant football coach Brent Baier has stepped down from his position and will take a role in La Verne's admissions office, athletics director Julie Kline announced on Tuesday. In addition to mentoring La Verne's quarterbacks, Baier also served as the football program's recruiting coordinator and the equipment manager for the athletics department.

"Brent has been a successful coach and mentor for our student athletes, and I thank him for his service to our department and the University," Kline said. "I am glad Brent is staying at La Verne and look forward to working with him in his new role."

Baier has guided some of La Verne's most successful quarterbacks and offenses in his five years with the program. In 2011, Baier mentored quarterback Thomas Arguello to perhaps the best season for a Leopard signal caller as he finished top-50 in the nation in total offense that year. Arguello ranks third all-time in school history in completion percentage, ninth in attempts, 10th in touchdown and 11th in total yards. Travis Carter also finished top-50 in total offense in 2012.

In 2014, La Verne fielded one of the most prolific offenses in program history. The Leopards ranked 24th in the nation in total offense (472.2 yards per game) and 30th in passing (283.0). Quarterback William Livingston also set the school record in passing touchdowns in a game with seven against Whitworth on Sept. 20, 2014.

"I want to thank Julie Kline, [head coach] Chris Krich and the University for the opportunity and support they have given me," Baier said. "I was incredibly lucky to have worked with fantastic student-athletes and talented colleagues. I wish the team the best of luck in the future and I know that they will be successful."

A search for an assistant football coach is under way.
