LA VERNE, Calif. — La Verne senior running back Travis Sparks-Jackson was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after scoring a career-high four touchdowns and racking up 210 rushing yards in a 48-27 win over Occidental on Oct. 3.
He set the tone with a 1-yard touchdown after La Verne forced a fumble on the opening kickoff and scored three more touchdowns in the second half as he wore down Occidental's defense with 138 second-half rushing yards. With the Leopards nursing a 15-13 in the third quarter, Sparks-Jackson put some daylight between the teams with a 44-yard touchdown run on La Verne's ensuing drive. Each of Sparks-Jackson's final two scores also gave the Leopards a two-possession lead, helping keep the Tigers at an arm's length.
The Huntington Beach native averaged 7.0 yards per carry and is now averaging 162.3 rushing yards per game.
Sparks-Jackson and the Leopards return to action on Saturday when they host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the annual homecoming game.
