Sparks-Jackson named D3football.com First Team All-Region

MINNEAPOLIS — The awards just keep rolling in.

Travis Sparks-Jackson of the University of La Verne football team was recognized nationally and was selected to the 2015 D3football.com First Team All-West Region Team as voted by the sports information directors in the region and D3football.com staff.

It is the latest award for the senior running back to add to his trophy case, having been named to the 2015 First Team All-SCIAC and earning the MVP award at the National Bowl, an all-star game consisting of top players from non-FBS schools.

Sparks-Jackson was the driving force behind La Verne's first SCIAC Championship since 1995 and its first NCAA Championship appearance since 1994 as he ran for 1,521 yards and 19 touchdowns this season. He surpassed the century mark on the ground in every game but one and scored a touchdown in every game this season.

The Huntington Beach native ran for 155 rushing yards and a score in the first round of the NCAA Championship against St. Thomas (Minn.), which were the most yards any player had recorded against the Tommies this season.

He was also named to the D3football.com Team of the Week on Oct. 6 after scoring a career-high four touchdowns and racking up 210 yards in a 48-27 win at Occidental.

Sparks-Jackson also became La Verne's all-time leading rusher and leaves La Verne with 3,046 career rushing yards.

The 2015 D3football.com All-America team will be announced Friday, Dec. 18, at the Stagg Bowl in Salem, Va.
