Football falls to Redlands on the road

REDLANDS, Calif. — Josh Evans finished with 12-15 passing, but a big third quarter by the Redlands Bulldogs put the game away and the Unversity of La Verne football team fell on the road 48-14.

Season Impact: The Leopards fall to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the SCIAC. Redlands improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

Evans finished with 114 yards through the air and a touchdown. Sam Taylor completed four passes for 40 yards. 

Jelahny Garnett had a big game for La Verne, catching seven passes for 84 yards. 

After the Bulldogs got on the board after a rushing down by Levi Plante, Redlands muffed a Russell Boucher punt and Daniel Gonzales jumped on the ball to give the La Verne offense possession at the 19 yard line.

Evans completed a 16 yard pass to Garnett and two plays later, running back Michael Medina answered with a rushing touchdown of his own. The extra point by Eric Rembecky evened the game at 7-7.

But Redlands went on a 41-7 run the rest of the game to grab the win.

Evans connected with DaeJohn Logan in the Leopards' first possession of the second half for a 30 yard touchdown pass to put the score at 21-14.

Derrin Hooks led La Verene with 13 tackles including one for a loss. Conner Johnson and Jose Aguero both totaled 10 tackles. 

Connor Truhitte and Trevor Goulet both recorded a sack. 

Next Game: The Leopards travel to Eagle Rock next Saturday to play the Occidental College Tigers. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Jack Kemp Stadium.
