
LA VERNE, CA — Robert Franklin has been tabbed at the SCIAC Football Defensive Athlete of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday.
Franklin led La Verne's defensive unit in the Leopards' 50-30 win over Whittier. The safety registered eight tackles and sealed the victory when he picked off Daniel Garlick's pass on Whittier's final drive of the game. Five of the senior's tackles were solo stops, he also added one tackle for a loss and one pass breakup.
Franklin is the first Leopard to receive SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honors this season. Wide receiver Nathaniel Sagastume picked up the offensive award after scoring the winning touchdown in the Leopards' overtime win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
