Football Falls to No. 23 Redlands

REDLANDS, CA — Matthew Albright threw for over 100 yards but the University of La Verne football team couldn't slow the No. 23 Redlands Bulldogs, falling on the road 65-7.

Nathaniel Sagastume scored the only touchdown for the Leopards on a 28-yard reception from Albright in the third quarter. Spencer Pool led the Leopards with 56 receiving yards on four receptions. Albright finished with 104 yards.

Freshman Mason Montanez led the Leopards with 11 tackles, seven of them solo stops, and half a tackle for a loss. Robert Franklin finished with eight total tackles. Derek Shay finished with one sack, one pass breakup, and four tackles. The La Verne defense totaled six tackles for losses.

Arturo Herrera-Caballero averaged 46.4 yards a punt with a long of 56 yards with two landing inside the 20-yard line. The sophomore punter, who now sports an average of 41.9 yards per punt, entered the game ranked 14th in the nation with a 41.20 average.

The Bulldogs' Nathan Martinez passed for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Mason Carvalho rushed for 79 yards and a pair of scores. Blake Roy and Andrew Kellstrom each hauled in one touchdown.

Season Impact

The Leopards move to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the SCIAC. Redlands improves to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
