LA VERNE, CA — The University La Verne football team (1-1) takes a quick weekend trip to Washington as it looks to get back to its winning ways against the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes (0-1) this Saturday in Tacoma, WA.

The keys to victory for the Leos in this one should be improved offensive line play, winning the turnover battle, and quality performances from dual quarterbacks. Tyrone Williams Jr. showed flashes of what he can bring to the offense, completing 87% of his throws for 175 yards and a touchdown against Chapman. Miguel Aguero Jr. came into the game and completed 72% of his throws for 311 yards and three touchdowns. Both quarterbacks will need to take advantage of a Lute secondary that allowed 10.9 yards per completion in their last game, a 42-28 loss at Cal Lutheran. The Leopards also hope for another big game from their wide receivers Ethan Medeiros and Nathaniel Sagastume. The duo caught eight passes for 148 yards and 11 passes for 129 yards respectively last time out.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Leos should look to slow down Lute running back Raysen Motoyama who rushed for 91 yards on 14 attempts against the Kingsmen. Motoyama was only stopped behind the line of scrimmage once and rushed for an average of 6.4 yards per carry. The La Verne secondary led by Raymond Moronez, Mason Montanez, Artist Orange II, and KJ Macatiag will look for a bounceback game and look to create turnovers as they did in the 42-0 season-opening win over Whittier. The defensive line anchored by seniors Khary Sanders, Derek Shay, and Oscar Orta will look to get back to putting more pressure on the quarterback and create havoc behind the line of scrimmage.
