About The Program

The football program at the University of La Verne enjoys a storied past over its 98-year legacy. The philosophies developed by the legendary Roland Ortmayer (1948-1990) still exist today.

Head coach Chris Krich has added to the rich traditions along with new wrinkles which cultivate a bridge to future success. In 2015 coach Krich led the Leopards to their first SCIAC Championships since 1995 and their second-ever NCAA playoff berth.

The 2012 season also brought a renovated Ortmayer Stadium, which features new field turf along with a state-of-the-art scoreboard.  More than 2,000 fans attended the Grand Re-opening of Ortmayer Stadium, which also included the first night game in the modern era of Leopard football.

The current Leopard regime looks to recapture the on-field success of 1990's when the Leopards were a dominant force within the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and West Region.  From 1991-96, La Verne sported a 46-8-1 mark, winning three straight SCIAC championships (1993-95) along with two consecutive unbeaten regular seasons in addition to earning the school's first-ever NCAA playoff berth in 1994. This span included a 21-game regular season winning streak as well as a 25-game SCIAC winning streak.

La Verne enjoyed a wealth of success in recent years as the 1990s summoned in the era of excellence as the Leopards produced winning seasons in eight of the 10 seasons.  The future looks extremely bright as a new foundation of Coach Krich has brought renewed enthusiasm among fans, students and alumni.

The mission of the Leopard football program is to distinguish itself as a quality athletic program through the pursuit of excellence based on sound educational principles and practices that operate within the philosophy and guidelines of the University of La Verne, the SCIAC conference, and the NCAA Division III.

As a program, the emphasis lies in the following: graduation within four years; a well-rounded, diversified education; active participation within all aspects of the campus community; and overwhelming success both on and off the football field. We hold the tradition of the ULV football graduates in great honor and recognize their legacy in both the university community and the football program.
