LA VERNE - The Leopards of the University of La Verne (3-5, 0-1 SCIAC) lost 70-77 to the Raiders of the Milwaukee School of Engineering (8-2) in overtime.
The first half of the game was dominated by the La Verne Leopards. Senior Ronn See led La Verne on offense as well as defense with 11 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. At the buzzer, the Leopards led the Raiders with a score of 38-33 - La Verne leading in field goal percentage 57.7% to 52.2%.
The Raiders of MSOE trailed the Leopards in the seoncd half until the 13:19 mark when Raider John Cording put the Raiders in the lead 48-47 with a quick baseline to baseline run that resulted in an easy layup.
But at 11:17 sophomore Weston Newell put the Leopards back in front 49-48 with two free throw buckets. The next seven minutes belonged solely to the Leopards, as La Verne outscored the Raiders 16-6. But at 0:23.7, Raider Austin Stueck hit a long 3 point shot tieing the game 64-64 - sending the game into overtime.
Overtime turned the tide in favor of the Raiders as MSOE outscored the Leopards, winning the game 77-70.
Outstanding offensive play was had by La Verne leading scorer, junior Niall Harrison, who secured a double double on the day with 20 points and 11 rebounds. See finished the game with 16 points and 4 rebounds.
The Leopards play tomorrow, December 29th against Beloit. Tip off is scheduled for 2 PM.
