Men's Basketball falls to Linfield

LA VERNE, Calif. — Linfield used a big second half run to beat the University of La Verne men's basketball team, 89-64, on Saturday afternoon at Sports Science and Athletic Pavilion.

La Verne falls to 1-3 while Linfield improves to 4-0.

A Kendall McClain three-pointer got the Leopards within 41-34 less than three minutes into the second half, but the Wildcats went on a 19-6 run to take a 20-point and stretched it further the rest of the way.

Linfield created the first separation midway through the first half on a pair of three-pointers by Riley Bruil and Cameron Frank, taking a 19-12 lead and took an eight-point lead into halftime. Linfield carried the momentum into the second half as Austin Daniels hit a three and Kyle Maloof made a layup out of the break to give the Wildcats a double-digit lead.

La Verne responded with a layup by White and McClain's three but that was as close as it would get.

Linfield shot well from the field and took advantage of La Verne's turnovers. The Wildcats shot 62.9 percent from the field in the second half and scored 23 points off turnovers to La Verne's six.

Anthony White led La Verne with 15 points but the no other Leopards could crack double digits. Khaneal Mason had seven assists and five rebounds to go along with four points. Hakim Arnold had eight points and four rebounds off the bench.

Kyle Maloof led all players with 22 points and 13 rebounds for Linfield. Vince Romeo and Bruil each chipped in 14 points. Tanner Autencio added 13.

La Verne returns to action against Pacific (Ore.) tomorrow at 2 p.m.
