Stags pull away from Leopards in second half

LA VERNE, Calif. — Connor Head led the Leopards with 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists and the University of La Verne Leopards stayed with second place Claremont-Mudd-Scrips for most of the first half. 

But the Stags pulled away in the first 10 minutes of the second half, on their way to beating the Leopards 72-53 Wednesday night at the Sports Science and Athletic Pavilion.

Cole Currie also finished in double figures with 10 points. The junior from La Crescenta knocked down a pair of threes and grabbed four rebounds.

Luke Edwards knocked down a pair of second half three-pointers. Evan Gustafson made an impact down low, kicking in seven points for La Verne.  

Brandon Rice totaled five rebounds with five points on the night. Victor Costa scored nine points and grabbed three rebounds.

Kendrick Morris led the Stags with 22 points with Michael Scarlett adding 15 points. 

The Leopard drop to 0-19 overall and 0-19 in SCIAC play. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps improve to 11-7 overall and 9-1 in the conference

Next Game: The Leopards travel to Whittier this Saturday in a 5 p.m. tip-off against the Poets.
