Men's Basketball battles against CMS

LA VERNE, CA  — Sinai Enoch got off a three-point shot in the waning seconds of the University of La Verne men's basketball team's game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in The Tents Saturday night. But the freshman's attempt rattled off the rim as the Leopards fell 60-57.

How It Happened

With 10 seconds to play in the game and the Leopards trailing by three, Enoch left off a three-pointer that went off the mark. But the freshman from Utah was fouled on the attempt, giving the Leopards a shot to tie the game. Enoch knocked down two of the attempts and the Leopards still had life after a CMS timeout. Following a foul by the Leopards, the Stags' Mitchell Kirsh extended his squad's lead with a pair of free throws. 

Once the Leopards got the ball past half court, Enoch got a shot off from the wing but just missed.

Stat Leaders

Senior Evan Gustafson had a big game for La Verne, scoring 18 hard earned points go to with a team-high five rebounds and five assists. His biggest play came with 29 seconds on the clock when the big man grabbed a pass in the low post with his back to the rim, took two dribbles to get around his defender, and finished off the glass to put the Leopards within two points.

Enoch finished with a game-high 19 points with four three-pointers and four rebounds. Jordan Allen also finished in double figures, going 4-8 from the floor, totaling 11 points with four rebounds, a block, and an assist. Jarid Taylor finished with four rebounds and four assists.

Nicolas Segura Dobjanschi led Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with 18 points, and Mark Sui contributed 13.

Season Impact

The Leopards have been playing better ball over their past two games coming within a possession of their first SCIAC win of the season their last two times out. Despite the effort, the Leopards drop to 1-12 overall and 0-5 in the SCIAC. The Stags improve to 0-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
