Leopards host UC Santa Cruz on Senior Day

LA VERNE, CA — Luke Edwards shot lights out from beyond the arc but the University of La Verne men's basketball team ran out of steam late against the visiting UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs.

Edwards could not be stopped from three-point range. The senior went 8-11 from deep and finished with a career-high 29 points in the effort. The Santa Clarita native went 10-15 from the floor, grabbed five rebounds, dished out one assist, and added a steal.

Along with Edwards, the Leopards honored seniors Evan Gustafson, Max Karim, and Alec Vucinich in a brief pregame ceremony. Gustafson finished with six points, six rebounds, and two assists.

Vucinich posted a game-high six assists to go with four points, four rebounds, two blocks, and an assist. Karim grabbed two boards.

UC Santa Cruz was led by Simon Mueller-Landsvik's 23 points.

The Leopards battled. After trailing by 12 points with under 14 minutes left to play, La Vere closed the gap to just one point after Tevin McClain knocked down a three-pointer to put the score at 58-57. But the Banana Slugs closed out the game strong, ending the night on a 10-2 run to pull away.

Next Game

The Leopards are back in action Monday night when they travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 8 p.m.
