Men's Basketball Battles with Tigers

La Verne, CA — The University of La Verne men's basketball team drained 10 three-pointers and hung with visiting Occidental for most of the game. But the Tigers pulled away late, defeating the Leopards 81-71.

Sinai Enoch led the Leopards with 18 points off four three-pointers to go with five assists, two rebounds, one block, and one steal. Isaiah Knox finished with 15 points, one shy of his season-high, and added four rebounds with one assist.

Jarid Taylor nearly secured a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds, eight defensively, and 12 points. Seth Shaw grabbed five rebounds, all on the defensive end, and added two assists and scored two points.

La Verne's 10 three-pointers were one short of their season-high. The Leopards held Occidental to just four second-chance points and turned the ball over just nine times in the contest, but the Tigers took advantage and turned the miscues into 14 points.

The Leopards tied the score four times and stayed within striking distance for most of the game. Midway through the second half, the Leopards went on a 6-0 run off layups by Knox, Taylor, and Jordan to cut Occidental's lead to just 57-55. But Occidental's Syndey Shipp poked the ball loose and finished on the other end to spark a 14-2 run for the Tigers and La Verne couldn't recover.

The Tigers were led by Jacob Alder's 21 points, Caleb Yellin-Flaherty's 15 rebounds, and Shipp's 15 points.

Occidental advanced to 16-5 overall and 10-4 in SCIAC. La Verne moves to a 2-21 overall and 2-12 in SCIAC.
