Leopard’s Come Up Big In The Clutch Over SAGU

La Verne, CA - The University of La Verne Men's Basketball team hosted  SAGU American Indian College tonight at the tents. With a close first half and domination in the second, the Leopards defeated the Warriors by a final score of 69-65.

Nearing the middle of the first half, La Verne broke even with a Leo layup by Brian Adams to tie the game 11-11. Leopard Forward, Kyler Harvey, led the Leopards in first-half points, scoring 9. Adrenaline flowed on the court with back-and-forth possessions in the last five minutes to go into halftime, leading to a SAGU lead over La Verne, 29-33.

In the first three minutes of the second half, Brian Adams tied the game yet again with a free throw at 37. Energy from the crowd spearheaded the Leopards to hold the Warriors at bay. The game took a turn in the last two minutes of the game, with Leopards leading by 1 point, the smallest Leopard lead of the night. With 37 seconds left, Brian Adams hit a 3-pointer with nothing but net to secure a four-point lead, 65-61. With the Warriors attempting to turn fouls into plays, La Verne secured the win with a final score of 69-65. 

The Leopards head to Pomona-Pitzer next Thursday, Dec 8th, at 7:00 PM pst for their second SCIAC game of the season.
