No. 9 Golf Places 3rd at SCIAC #1

FONTANA, Calif. – The No. 9 University of La Verne golf team finished in 3rd place at the SCIAC #1 on Sunday at the Sierra Lakes Golf Course. Freshman Alec Spencer was the Leopards' low scorer as he finished 5th at an even-par 144, shooting a 72 each day.

The Leopards opened with a 293 total on Saturday followed by 298 during Sunday's round.

Junior Andre Bedard was tied for the lead after the first round with a 3-under 69, but tailed off in the final round as he finished tied for 7th with a total score of 146.

Senior Keven Holliday carded a 148 (74-74) to finish 15th.

Senior Paul Gomez and junior Kelby Scharmann rounded out La Verne's scoring with 153 (78-75, T-24th) and 156 (78-78, T-30th), respectively.

No. 1 Redlands (281-279=560) ran away with the team title, finishing 21 strokes ahead of No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (289-292=581). Redlands' Jeremy Gomberg shot a 10-under 134 to claim the individual win.

After a four-week break, the Leopards will return to action on March 14-16 when they travel to Jekyll Island, Ga. for the 54-hole Jekyll Island Invitational.
