BEAUMONT, Calif. — The University of La Verne men's golf team finished seventh at the 2016 SCIAC Men's Golf Championship held at Oak Valley Golf Club.
The Leopards finish seventh in the final SCIAC standings after seven rounds.
Inconsistency, a telltale sign of a young team, plagued the Leopards as it has done all season. The Leopards were in third place after the first round with a team total of 299, but fell off the cliff on Monday with a total of 321 and finished with a 309 in the final round.
Alec Spencer and Josh Davis each shot a three-round total of 229 to lead the Leopards and finished tied for 23rd individually.
Davis got off to a brisk start as he carded a one-under 71 in the first round but struggled with the weather in the second round as he posted an 81. He finished the tournament with a 77 in the final round.
Spencer shot a 74 in the first round, a 79 in the second and came in the a 76 in the final round.
Sam Mangiaterra paced the Leopards after two rounds with a score of 149 (73-76) but slowed down in the final round as he carded an 82. He finished 26th.
Aaron DiGiamarino completed the Leopards' scoring with a total of 246 (82-85-79). Austin Matzaganian (81-89-77=247) and Hisham Hussein (86-87-79=252) rounded out La Verne's lineup.
No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps claimed the team tournament title (300-293-274=867) and the overall championship. John McCord of Redlands won the individual medal with a total score of 210 (65-73-72).
Spencer has a shot at earning an individual bid to to NCAA National Championship. The field will be announced on Monday, May 2 at 2 p.m.
