NORMAN, Okla. — Alec Spencer of the La Verne men's golf team was named to the 2017 NCAA Division III PING All-West Region Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Tuesday. This is Spencer's second All-Region honor.
Spencer, a senior from San Diego, averaged 73.67 strokes per round across all events this season and posted five top-5 finishes. He was especially strong down the stretch, finishing sixth at West cup, sixth at SCIAC No. 2 and third at SCIAC Championships to close out the regular season.
He also posted good results against upper-division opponents. Against top NCAA Division II and NAIA competition at West New Mexico University Fall Intercollegiate, Spencer finished sixth overall. In the spring, he tied for 25th at Folino Invitational against a field comprised entirely of Division I teams.
Spencer is currently in action at NCAA National Championships in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, hosted by Oglethorpe.
