Hussein finishes in Top-10, Leopards take 11th

VISTA, Calif. — Hisham Hussein finished in the top ten individually and the University of La Verne men's golf team took 11th overall to end the Cal State San Marcos Fujikura Invitational.

Hussein closed out the invite with his best round of the tournament. After shooting a 75 and 74 in the first two rounds respectively, the junior finished shooting a 72 in the final round to end with a total score of 221. Hussein finished in a six-way tie for ninth and also finished in a tie with Cal Lutheran's Tyler Ferrier as the top NCAA Division III golfer in the field.

"From tee to green he was one of the best in the field," said La Verne golf Head Coach Eric Riehle. He led the field in pars, hit the ball solidly, and kept his composure the best he's ever had." 

As a team, the Leopards finished with a three-round score of 918.

Pitiluk Phanomchai had the next best individual finish for the Leopards, tying for 43rd with a total score of 232.

Conner Davis did well in his final round shooting a 77, matching his performance from yesterday afternoon. The junior finished one stroke behind Phanomchai at 233, tying for 49th overall.

Aaron DiGiamarino (T-58th, 236), and Jason Brown (T-62, 238) closed out the scoring for the Leopards.

"We came into the week with the goal of commanding the internal side of the game. We wanted to do a good job of playing golf regardless of the outcome. Our program has always prided itself on toughness. We're playing the hardest DIII schedule in the county and each week it will help make us better."
