Leopards post strong performances in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — The University of La Verne men's golf team finished 15th overall at Las Vegas Desert Classic at Royal Links Golf Club in a competition against top NCAA Division II and III teams.

Conner Davis had the best individual finish, tying for 38th.

"What a great experience for our group to play against some of the best teams in the country on a fantastic links course in challenging conditions," said La Verne Golf Head Coach Eric Riehle. "We're close to winning results if our group works through the process of improvement with scoring on and around the greens. I think they'll make that choice and we'll prove very successful for the remainder of the season."

After shooting a 75 in the opening round, Davis posted the best individual round performance for the Leopards the second time out, shooting a 71. Davis finished with a three-round score of 228.

Hisham Hussein had the next best finish for the Leopards. Fresh off finishing as the top golfer at SCIAC No. 1 that earned him SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors, Hussein finished tied for 50th with a score of 234 after shooting 75, 80, 76.

Aaron DiGiamarino posted the best single-round improvement for La Verne. After posting a score of 83 the first time out, the senior improved by seven strokes in the second round and finished tied for 59th with a score of 233.

Pitiluk Phanomchai improved each day shooting 82, 81 and 75 to end the tournament with a final score of 238. Jake Littlejohn rounded out the scorecard for La Verne shooting 245.
