Men's Golf takes second, Phanomchai best individual

PASADENA, Calif. — Pitiluk Phanomchai finished first overall and the University of La Verne men's golf team took second at SCIAC No. 2. The Leopards ranked No. 15 by Golfstat and No. 23 by the Golf Coaches Association of America finished with three golfers in the top five.

The Leopards finished with an overall score of 593, eight strokes behind No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. La Verne ended day one with a score of 292, two strokes behind the Stags and ended Sunday with a round two score of 301.

Phanomchai, fresh off a fifth-place finish at The West Cup, continued to show off his talents as one of the top golfers in the SCIAC. The freshman opened the tournament with a one-under 71, ending day one tied with three other golfers. Phanomchai came out strong again the second time out, shooting a 73 for a total score of 144, edging out Pomona-Pitzer's Conor Rooney and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Johnny Brandt by one stroke.

Hisham Hussein, who took first at SCIAC No. 1 earning SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors for his performance, also shot a 71 on the opening round and carded a 76 his next time out to take fourth.

One stroke behind Hussein in fifth place was Conner Davis. After shooting a 75 in the first round, Davis improved by two strokes on round to finish the tournament with a score of four-over 148.

Aaron DiGiamarino tied for 21st overall with a 75 on day one and a 79 on day two. Brandon Blum finished in 35th place with a total score of 160.

Charlie Green finished the tournament with a score of 167.

Next Round: The Leopards compete next at the SCIAC Championships beginning on April 22 at Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills.
