No. 14 Leopards remain in third after day 2

CHINO HILLS, Calif. — Pitiluk Phanomchai and Henrik Skogseth each shot well on the back nine as the No. 14 University of La Verne men's golf team held on to their third place spot after day two of the SCIAC Championships.

The Leopards improved their team score from day one to the second day of competition by four strokes, shooting a combined 292 on Monday. La Verne's two day total sits at 588. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps currently leads the field with a score of 568.

Phanomchai shot the low score for the Leopards, finishing round two with a one-under, 71. On the front nine, the freshman birdied the first and eighth holes but also bogeyed three holes. He was solid on the final nine holes, finishing with two birdies with pars on the other seven holes. The Thailand native's two day total of 146 places him in 10th place.

After a shaky start to open day two that included four bogeys through the first 12 holes, Skogseth finished strong with back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th along with another on the 16th and 18th. Skogseth ended the round with a one-over 73 and currently sits in a tie for 11th place with a two-day score of 147.

Hisham Hussein finished the round at four-over 76, putting the junior in a tie for 15th after two days. Aaron DiGiamarino had the biggest individual improvement for the Leopards on day two. The senior shot an even 72 with birdies on the sixth, 13th, and 16th.

Jake Littlejohn shot a 79, and Conner Davis finished with a 78.

Next Round: The Leopards conclude the tournament tomorrow with tee times beginning at 9 a.m.
