No. 14 Men's Golf finishes second overall in SCIAC

CHINO HILLS, Calif. — Hisham Hussein shot the best individual round of the tournament for the Leopards and the University of La Verne men's golf team finished the 2018 SCIAC Championships in fourth place, and second overall in the SCIAC standings.

The Leopards shot 880 (296, 292, 292) over three days of the tournament and finished with a seven-round score of 2053. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps finished first at the SCIAC Championships (855) and in the final SCIAC standings (2020).

Hussein saved his best golf for the final day of the tournament. The junior shot four birdies over the final nine holes and finished the round with a two-under, 70. He also added one of the biggest highlights of the tournament when he finished with an albatross on the par-5 eighth. Hussein had the best individual finish for La Verne, taking eighth with a three-day score of 218.

Pitiluk Phanomchai and Henrik Skogseth both finished four strokes behind Hussein in the overall standings in a tie for 15th place. After a rough start on the first hole to open day three, Skogseth recovered the rest of the way paring 12 holes with a pair of birdies and bogeys to finish the round with a card of three-over, 73.

Phanomchai finished the round with a score of 74. Aaron DiGiamarino carded a 77 with a pair of birdies, finishing the tournament with a score of 226.

Conner Davis shot his best round of the week on day three. The junior carded a one-under, 71 with four birdies in the round to finish with an overall score of 227. Jake Littlejohn shot an 82 on day three and finished with a three-day score of 236.

The Leopards will have to wait and see if they receive an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament. Tournament teams will be announced on May 7.
