No. 11 Men's Golf in 2nd after Day 1 of SCIACs

PASADENA, CA — The No. 11 University of La Verne men's golf team finished day one of the SCIAC Men's Golf Championships in second place in a tight race for the top spot.

The Leopards finished round one with a score of 289, 11 strokes behind leader Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Just seven strokes separate second place from seventh place.

Phanomchai finished the round at one-over 71. The sophomore got off to a hot start, birding three holes on the front nine. The Thailand native finished his round strong, making an eagle on the 16th before birding the final hole of the day.

Senior Conner Davis and junior Jason Brown both ended the day a stroke behind Phanomcahi at two-over 72 in a tie for ninth place. After bogeying five holes on the front nine, Davis recovered over the backstretch of the course, birding the 14th, 16th, and 17th holes with just one bogey. Brown had a pretty consistent round, finishing with two birdies on both the front and back nine.

Senior Hisham Hussein ended the day in a tie for 17th, shooting a 74 that included a pair of birdies.

Sophomore Jake Littlejohn tied for 28th with a 76. Littlejohn birdied three holes on the front nine. Connor Dunlop rounded out the day for La Verne in a tie for 35th with a 78 with two birdies.

Mason Chiu of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps leads individually with a seven-under 63.

The tournament moves to Brookside Course number one on Saturday, a par 72, 6892-yard course.
