Hussein leads Leopards on Day One of NCAAs

NICHOLASVILLE, KY — Hisham Hussein finished the first round in 13th place individually and the University of La Verne men's golf team ended day one in 23rd place.

The Leopards need to move five spots up the leaderboard to make the cut for the final two days of the tournament. After the first 36 holes, the field is cut down to the top 18 teams and the top six individuals who are not on those teams. La Verne is currently three strokes back of 18th place with a total score of 313.

Hussein shot an even 72 on Tuesday and sits just three strokes out of first place. The senior finished the day with four birdies including two in last three holes to end in a seven-way tie for 13th place. Hussein was solid on the back nine, bogeying just one hole and birdieing three.

Pitiluk Phanomchai and Jake Littlejohn both shot a 79. Phanomchai birdied two holes on the front nine and Littlejohn ended the day with three birdies.

Jason Brown shot an 83 with a birdie on the second hole. Conner Davis carded an 84 on day one.

Illinois Wesleyan leads the team standings with a total score of 287. Sam Goldenring from Williams College leads individually with a score of 69.

The Leopards tee of at 9 a.m. pacific time tomorrow.
