Leopards Takedown Beavers

The University of La Verne men's soccer team (4-1, 2-1 SCIAC) advances in conference after Wednesday night's home game against Caltech.

 The Leopards took charge in a 4-0 victory over the Beavers in the second half.

La Verne went on to attack Caltech's defense with a variety of corner kicks and close shots. At the 22-minute mark La Verne's freshman forward Nathan Gonzalez fired a 20-yard shot to connect for a goal. In pursuit of another goal the Leopards took 8 more shots on goal before ending the first half.

Into the second half the Leopards took 13 shots on goal before closing a penalty kick by senior midfielder Joshua Hill (3 SOG for the night). At the 75-minute mark Caltech had the opportunity to score but was denied their best scoring chance on the evening by La Verne's freshman goalkeeper David Lopez (3 saves total) shutting out the Beavers.

La Verne followed up with two short goals at the 77-minute one by sophomore midfielder Ko Yajima. The other by senior midfielder Fernando Almejo (7 shots and 5 SOG) off a header shot on a corner kick placed perfectly by freshman forward Lorenzo Leyva. The Leopards finished off the match 4-0.

The Leopards (4-1, 2-1 SCIAC) will take on their next in conference match at home against Chapman on Saturday at 5:00pm.
