LOS ANGELES- The University of La Verne men's soccer squad earned a 3-1 league victory over Occidental College Saturday.

The Leopards (10-6, 8-6 SCIAC) opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a strike from senior midfielder David Gonzalez. Freshman forward Nathan Gonzalez added another in the 17th minute with an assist from senior midfielder Fernando Almejo to give the Leopards an early 2-0 lead, but the Tigers (2-15, 1-13 SCIAC) found the back of the net in the 37th minute to cut the deficit to one going into halftime.

Both back lines held the score to 2-1 until the waning seconds of the match when Nathan Gonzalez hit the mark again to provide a late insurance goal for the Leos.

David Gonzalez took a team-high four shots on goal while freshman goalkeeper David Lopez made five saves on the night. La Verne was outshot 14-11 but held an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Leos took seven corners kicks to Oxy's five.

La Verne will return to the pitch Monday in Claremont at 7 p.m. for a matchup with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
