Leopard men’s soccer squad falters at CMS

CLAREMONT- The University of La Verne men's soccer team endured a 4-0 loss to Claremont-Mudd Scripps Monday night.

The Leopards stood their ground during the first half, nearly matching the Stags in shots attempted by a 9-7 margin. But with five minutes remaining CMS tallied their first score to lead 1-0 heading into halftime.

The Leo offense could only muster one second-half shot, however, while the Stags found the back of the net three times to seal the win.

Senior midfielders Fernando Almejo and Ryan Estrada led the offense with two shots apiece while freshman goalkeeper Dylan Roberts made one save. The final stat sheet showed CMS with a 20-8 advantage in shots and a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.

La Verne will conclude its regular season with a league match against Cal Lutheran University Saturday at Ortmayer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
