Men's Soccer plays No. 19 Redlands to tie

LA VERNE, Calif. — Javier Jasso converted a penalty kick to give the Unversity of La Verne men's soccer team a 2-0 lead early in the second half, but the No. 19 Redlands Bulldogs tied the game in the 71st minute to send the game to overtime. 

Neither team could find the back of the net in the extra periods, ending the game in a 2-2 tie.

Season Impact: The Leopards move to 5-5-2 overall and  2-5-2 in SCIAC play. Redlands now sits at 9-3-1 overall and 8-0-1 in the SCIAC.

Johnny DeRueda gave the Leopards the early 1-0 lead in what turned into a very physical match-up. In the 55th minute, Jack Kolodge launched a perfect cross into the box that DeRueda was able to tap in to get the Leopards on the board first.

After La Verne went into the break up 1-0, Redlands' Joey Kenney committed a hard foul in the box and was given a red card. Jasso connected on the penalty kick to put his squad up by two.

Redlands go on the board 12 minutes later when Antony Chonga gathered a loose ball in the box and sent it to the corner of the net to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Bulldogs evened the game four minutes later when Cameron Doody connected with Casey ChubbFertal to even the game 2-2.

The Leopards had a couple chances in overtime but couldn't pull off the upset.

Next Game: The Leopards have a week off before they host the Caltech Beavers at home on Saturday, October 14 at 5 p.m.
