Leopards shut out Tigers on the road, 3-0

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Auden Foxe gave La Verne the lead in the 14th minute and the University of La Verne men's soccer team rolled on their way to a 3-0 lead Wednesday night at Jack Kemp Stadium.

Season Impact: The Leopards improve to 7-6-2 overall and 4-5-2 in the SCIAC. The Tigers drop to 7-7 overall and 6-6 in conference play.

Foxe's goal came off an assist by Luis Hernandez, his second in three games, to give his team an early cushion in the match.

Sophomore Christopher Wong added an insurance goal for La Verne in the 31st minute when he scored an unassisted goal to give his team a 2-0 lead at the half.

Johnny DeRueda scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 76th minute off an assist by Manuel Rodriguez to kill any chance of an Occidental comeback. The freshman is currently tied for first in the SCIAC in goals and ranks second in points with 18.

Both teams stayed aggressive in the second half with each squad firing nine shots in the period.

The Leopards defense played tough, fending off 10 corner kicks by the Tigers to keep them off the board.

Josh Ramirez came up big for the Leopards, grabbing seven saves in the game to earn the shutout.

Next Game: La Verne travels to Orange to face the Chapman Panthers this Saturday at 7 p.m.
