LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne men's soccer team battled for 99 minutes and 59 seconds. With one tick left on the clock, Christopher Wong knocked in the game-winner, giving the Leopards the 2-1 overtime win over the visiting Cal Lutheran Kingsmen.

With just six seconds left in overtime, Thomas McKenzie sent a long throw into the box. Neither team could get a solid touch on the ball and it bounced towards Wong. The junior stuck the ball off the bounce, it ricocheted off a defender and into the back of the net for the win.
Season Impact
With the win, the Leopards score their first win in SCIAC play this year and improve their record to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Cal Lutheran falls to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in SCIAC play.
How it Happened
In the 33rd minute, Salvador Ortega gathered the ball 40 yards out, dribbled through a trio of Kingsmen defenders, and sent a slick pass to a cutting Jack Kolodge on the left side. Kolodge quickly gathered it and sent it past the diving keeper to the back of the net.
Cal Lutheran's Jared Pischke scored the equalizer two minutes into the second half. Both teams had chances late in regulation but couldn't close, sending the game to sudden death overtime.
La Verne stayed on the attack in the extra period and didn't allow a Kingsmen shot, setting up Wong's game-winner.
Next Game
La Verne continues SCIAC play on Saturday when they travel to Whittier to face the Poets at 7 p.m.
