Leopards Caged By Cougars On The Road

The University of La Verne men's tennis team dropped their second match of the season, 9-0, against last year's NAIA national runner-up Azusa Pacific at the Citrus College Courts Thursday.

ULV (1-1) was competitive in all doubles matches, but APU controlled the tempo. The duo of Mario Backes and Richard Delgado were ULV's most prominent performance, falling 8-4 at No. 2.

APU swept the seven singles matches, but ULV managed to display spirited attitudes on the courts. Backes was toe-to-toe against Daniel Moore in the first set, but lost it 7-5 before falling 6-2 in the second at singles No. 3.

Delgado was another Leopard in close contention of his match at No. 5. The junior nearly produced a set one win, but APU's Danny Colten proved too formidable. Colten went on to take the set 6-4 before winning the second, 6-2.

The Leopards return to action Wednesday, February 6, at Concordia-Irvine at 5 p.m.
