Track and Field competes at UNLV Spring Invitational

LAS VEGAS — The University of La Verne track and field team competed at the UNLV Spring Invitational this past weekend, getting some reps in before resuming SCIAC competition this week.

Men's competition

Josh Francis took came in first in his heat of the 100 meters with a time of 11.13 seconds. Robert Oshodin was fifth in the same heat, coming in at 11.24 seconds.

Francis and Oshodin teamed up with Khayree Jones and Nick Gonsalves in the 400 meter relay and took fourth place with a time of 41.73 behind three Division I teams.

Trevor Welch placed second in his heat of the 400 meters with a time of 52.97.

Derek Tang and Jacob Pavlovics impressed in the high jump. Both cleared a height of 1.85 meters to finish tied for fourth overall. A trio of Division I jumpers had a clearance of 2.05 meters.

Chris Gura unleashed a discus throw of 43.87 meters to take third place overall. He recorded tosses of 13.03 meters in the shot put and 48.01 meters in the hammer throw.

Women's competition

Mele Halalilo continued to shine in the throwing events. She was fourth overall in the discus with a throw of 41.99 meters and was fifth in the shot put with an 11.94m.  She recorded 31.91 meters in the javelin throw.

Taylor Berhnard had the fifth best performance in the pole vault. The senior cleared 3.30 meters.Taylor Schulze was right behind with a clearance of 3.15 meters.

Tiahna Gillon clocked a 12.56 in the 100 meters to take third in her heat. She was fifth in her section in the 200 meters (26.44).

Taelor RobyKimmy KabluyenAlexa Smith and Gillon combined for a time of 49.29 seconds in the 400 meter relay.

The Leopards return to action on Saturday for the second SCIAC Multi-Dual of the season, hosted by Pomona-Pitzer.
