Men’s Track and Field dominates field events at SCIAC Quad 3

LOS ANGELES — The University of La Verne men's track and field team claimed six of eight field events to beat Pomona-Pitzer (105-53) and Redlands (82-80) at SCIAC Multi-Dual 3, hosted by Occidental, on Saturday. The Leopards fell to the Tigers, 84-78.

Chris Gura, who also plays tight end for the La Verne football team, won the shot put and discus with tosses of 13.72 meters (45 feet, 0.25 inches) and 44.59 meters (146-03), respectively.

Andrew Carrasco won the hammer with a throw of 52.33 meters (171-08) and Gura finished second at 49.41 meters (162-01).

Jason Nicholls ran away with the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.68 meters (15-04.25) while none of the other competitors cleared four meters. Nicholls added a second-place finish in the discus behind Gura with a toss of 41.08 meters (134-09).

Art Hinojosa took the long jump with a leap of 6.47 meters (21-02.75) and Jacob Lopez won the triple jump with a jump of 13.49 meters (44-03.25). Hinojosa was right behind Lopez in the triple jump at 13.01 meters (44-08.25).

Nick Gonsalves won the 100 meters with a season-best time of 10.77 seconds to highlight the track portion of the meet for La Verne.

Josh Francis notched a pair of third place finishes the 200 (21.99) and the 400 (49.40).

Bryan Hayes finished second in the 5000 meters with a time of 15 minutes, 25.32 seconds.

The Leopards return to action on Friday at Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific.
